Minerva Secondary School: Commercial Diploma, Professional Matriculation Certificate (Baccalaureate), and access to university all in one.In August 2010, Minerva Zürich launches a 4-year secondary school study programme, which grants graduates access to university or to the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology by way of a Commercial Diploma, a recognised Swiss Professional Matriculation Certificate (Baccalaureate), or a Swiss Passerelle examination. This alternative to the regular Swiss state secondary school provides students with the opportunity to combine theory and practice in the integrated work experience included in the programme. As a result of these three available Swiss recognised certificates, graduates can keep all their options open regarding their educational and professional development. Porta reveals new approaches and opportunities in preparing youths for a professionPorta accompanies students step by step, for a span of two years, starting with a specially designed 9th school year and then followed by one year of apprenticeship at a training workshop. Students are first educated in the occupational fields of IT and Commerce and must decide on their preferred area of study, during the first year at Portas. In the second year students build the foundation for the basic skills and competencies which they will need to be successful in their profession, whereby their education is practically oriented to prepare them for real situations in daily working life. The second Porta year is equivalent to the first year of apprenticeship. Students can transfer directly to the second year of their apprenticeship or continue their education at a private school after successful completion of the second Porta year. “Einstein” – the science magazine: Kalaidos university of applied sciences, implicit association testBroadcast of 11 March, 2010 |
