AKAD has always placed a strong emphasis on efficient and effective learning. Sven Kohler stresses that the AKAD method is far more than a teaching approach – it forms the core of the school’s identity and culture, shaped by the founding ideas of Herbert Maissen and Juan Meier. With remarkable foresight, the method anticipated concepts such as blended learning and the flipped classroom at a very early stage.

The method focuses on shifting knowledge transfer to self-study in order to use classroom time for active learning – classic teaching is ‘turned upside down’, so to speak. However, the decisive factor remains when and how active learning takes place. The current further development of the AKAD method takes new empirical research findings into account, questions existing assumptions and integrates evidence-based insights into practice.

The aim is to enhance pedagogical quality while preserving the established culture of collaborative learning and community. With this revision, AKAD wants to open a new chapter that bridges its rich tradition and history with the present and future of learning.
